10 Great Things, a feature we do with no regularity whatsoever, is back! Here are ten little things that Caroline is enjoying:
Thinking about running a triathlon. Not actually running it, because I can’t attest to whether that’s any fun or not. But just kind of pondering doing one. Maybe bring it up to a friend or two to see how they react. Keep the tab open on your computer for a couple months but never really check it. Just let it swim around the ol head for a few months. It’s fun to imagine it!
The song “Sheets of Egyptian Cotton” from Uptown Girls. You know how every 6 months, a tweet goes viral that asks “what song from a movie do you wish was real?” And the correct answer is, of course, “That Thing You Do” from That Thing You Do. But I would also like to nominate “Sheets of Egyptian Cotton”, a song that marries absurdity and catchiness in ways that should be studied by governments.
The Beatrix Potter exhibit at the Morgan Library. If you love morality tales with little creatures from the English Countryside, look no further! I loved these books as a kid. We wore out the VHS of The Tailor of Gloucester because I loved seeing the mice dressed up in their royal finest. The exhibit has original drawings of so many of her little guys and I got to go with my parents on a day teeming down rain. The greatest!
A little black and white dog that loves you and tennis balls, in that order.
La Colombe Oat Milk Draft Latte. This is the kind of drink that’s gonna make you want to live forever. You will go up to heaven, see your grandparents, come back down, do a little tap dance, and still have enough energy to accomplish everything you need to. It will cost you $6 plus tip but when you consider that money is fake, it’s a pretty good deal.
Plisse pants. These freakin pants are incredible. They never wrinkle no matter how much you crumple and abuse them. The dream is to own a pair of Pleats Please but those exist in a tax bracket I will never know.
Gjusta in Venice, CALIFORNIA! I was in LA for like 11 hours and we spent at least 2 of them at Gjusta eating cardamom buns, and then going back an hour later for a second cardamom bun.
Seeing our friend Rollie Williams interview Al Gore while also in character as Al Gore. Watching this interview at the Javits Center felt like how it must feel when you have a friend qualify for the Olympics. Like, he DID IT. The thing he said he wanted to do that seemed kinda wild. He dressed up as Al Gore enough times and did enough comedy about climate change that the Real Actual Al Gore invited him to speak with him. Also, Al Gore - big guy!
New sheets. When you have a little black and white dog, sometimes they will put a hole in your ancient sheets and you’ll think “eh, that’s not so bad” but then two months will pass and the hole will become man-sized and you will finally cave and buy new sheets. And the sheets will feel so nice, you’ll vow to never waste time letting a little hole grow to man-sized again.
Talking about the NYC Earthquake. Man did I get some mileage out of that. I’ll admit that I also liked the actual earthquake which feels safe to say since there was no damage.
holy shit just checked out rollie's videos on youtube
how great! i must have been living under a rock
and from the shit he is uncovering and explaining maybe i should stay there
